Ignacio Alcazar – From 12 to 31 December 2008

We have art in order not to perish because of the truth”

Antoni Pinyol Gallery presents new work by the artist Ignacio Alcázar.
Alcázar (Madrid, 1963) exhibits a large load literary pieces. We are dealing with short stories that tell fragments of films, intermingled with objects. Symbolization of animals, enhancement of tools, among other themes, are chosen as an excuse to use a humour of faint smile and marked intrigue. He explores the border between drawing and painting with an insinuating brush stroke, almost absent, because in many cases, it is replaced by printing. The artist paints graphic short poems, which are like “greguerias.” With them he expresses an idea of what is the future of life. Through repetition of symbols, he also alludes to the eternal return, in this vital fact. The undeniable power of his stroke reflects the will to power, art as a proper task of life, seeking a response to be, also by disagreements between objects and characters, causing the intoxicating quality, defining his own style, running from the truth.
Another proposal, also in the exhibit, is his peculiar pictures, there Alcazar enhances the strokes of the origin of Superman in his portraits, using only the look as a feature that differentiates and makes each human unique.
