Ester Ferrando – Fràgil – From 4 to 30 January 2008

The exhibition Frágil presented in our gallery is a logical continuation of the artist work on the theme of identity, construction & development of this, relating to swimming as a metaphor for purification and constant change. The main parts of the proposal are a series of vessels that evoke both the old and existing containers for hand washing. The material used is the alabaster, alabaster with many betas that are evident to the viewer through the light inside them. The material, initially cold becomes almost organic, like the bone tissue. This effect wants to emphasize the transfer that occurs between the person who uses this receptacle and the object. At bath time there is a small part of us that disappears, leaves our body, the container as an object, where this little part of us survives and gradually becomes part of it, humanizing. The container becomes alive through those human particles left to go its users. The bathroom produces a purifying effect on the person and an effect of pregnancy / continuous transformation in the object. The pieces keep the character of aseptic cleanliness of the bathroom with the use of materials like glass, and the support of the pieces in blown glass bubbles that shaped the composition. Note that this series consists of seven small pieces (approx 60 x 60 cm), an unusual dimension in her work, usually she woks with larger sized objects.
